I've been asked why I'm running for councillor.

To be blunt, the quality of information that comes to and out of council is astonishingly poor. This needs to change. A case in point is the 'package' of information sent out to the certified list of nominees on August 24, 2026.

The township's information provided to candidates contains not one but two important errors related to spending limits and instructions for sign placement. Both required corrections to be mailed out because inaccurate information creates an unequal opportunity for candidates.

We're off to a rocky start. It matters because if candidates overspend, under-report, misplace signs or otherwise get it wrong, IT CAN COST YOU YOUR RIGHT TO HOLD YOUR SEAT if you win or even RUN in the next election if you don't. We count on the office to provide accurate information, because the decision making authority on whether you did it right or wrong resides in that office.

We have incumbants and acclaimed nominees. It might be reasonable to assume they know this already. But the new folks on the block have been set at a disadvantage right out of the gate.

High quality information from our municipal staff and governance is about trust. My first job as a candidate is to decide who to trust as an authoritative source of information. How do we trust the people who make and enforce the laws if we can't trust the information they provide? If we can't trust them to proofread the documents they send out to the public DURING AN ELECTION CYCLE?
